Samsung Galaxy Note 8 and iPhone X: Flagship Collision

Do you love Apple devices or are you totally sure that there is nothing better than Samsung? Today we will compare two flagships of 2018 – perfect iPhone X and new Samsung Galaxy Note 8 helping you decide which of them is the winner. Which one do you bet on?

Design

Let’s start with the design and quality. The iPhone X is now available in silver and space grey colors. It has bold design and stands out from recent Apple models looking less conservative. iPhone X can boast with almost edge-to-edge screen and it does not have a Home button – the phone looks great but hiding this button Apple has applied the things we might not like.

The Note 8 can be seen in Maple Gold and Midnight Black. As many other Android representatives, it has the edge-to-edge screen just with one centimeter of the frame below and above the display. The smartphone has an always-on display so you can see all necessary info and notifications not even touching the device. Both Smartphone designs are modern-looking and beautiful, so you can choose any of them, actually.

Features and Techs

Both devices have wireless charging but the charger is sold separately. Samsung Note 8 has an integrated stylus popping out when you tap on it. For iPhone X there is no compatible Apple Pencil stylus, unfortunately. As for technical characteristics, Note 8 octa-core processor Exynos 8895, 6GB RAM, 64GB of internal storage and 6.3in Quad HD Super AMOLED display. The iPhone X combines Embedded M11 motion coprocessor, 3GB RAM, 64GB or 256GB of internal storage and 5.8in HDR display.

Galaxy model has:

  • 3300mAh non-removable battery;
  • Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, GPS, 11ac dual-band Wi-Fi;
  • Software Android 7.1 Nougat;
  • 163mm x 75mm x 8.6mm dimensions;
  • 195g weight.

The iPhone X has:

  • – battery life up to 21 hours when talking, 60 hours of listening to music and 12 hours of Internet use;
  • Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, 802.11ac Wi-Fi;
  • Software iOS 11;
  • 6mm x 70.9mm x 7.7mm dimensions;
  • 174g weight.

Samsung can be bought in the US starting from $1200 to $1300, iPhone X (64GB) for $1400 and iPhone (256GB) for $1600.

3D Touch and Facial Recognition

Live Photos FaceTime is a feature capturing a few seconds of video before and after you make a picture. Then you use 3D Touch pressing the screen and making a photo wake up. 3D Touch is not limited only to activating Live Photos. You can also use interface shortcuts, see previews of links etc. One of the great features available in iPhone X is Face ID: this way Apple replaced loved by users Touch ID (now it could not be included as it was based on Home button which is absent now).

This is a sophisticated system of face recognition which may be used to unlock the phone or make Apple payments. The feature seems to be extremely secure and reliable despite the funny fact that it failed to work at the first demonstration. Samsung is also very secure having its own face recognition (less sophisticated though), an iris scanner and fingerprint scanner.

Summing Up

Summarizing all characteristics we can state the following: the Note 8 model has the bigger screen but it also means that the device is bigger. It is sharper but both flagships are sharp and in our humble opinion you will not notice a big difference between them. Samsung can also boast with the higher-rated front camera and iPhone instead has Portrait Mode bokeh photo effect. Face ID on Samsung should be more secure than offered but the device has iris and fingerprint scanners compared to the rival.

Samsung can offer better specs but due to the integration of soft and hardware, this experience is not much better. iOS is more user-friendly and also more secure (which is important when biometric data is being involved). And what smartphone is your winner?
